Science

At Highlands Primary School Science is taught by building knowledge and developing our understanding of the world through first hand experiences and exploration.  We strive to provide an environment where children are willing to take risks when trying out their ideas and are given the opportunities to develop their skills when working scientifically.  At both key stages we take full account of the main characteristics of Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

We want to inspire and challenge our children to become independent thinkers, who use their knowledge of science to develop their understanding of the constant changing world they live in.  We aim to ensure that our children can learn about how science impacts upon and underpins much of our lives in today’s society. Practical activities should stimulate children’s curiosity about natural phenomena and develop an understanding of how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things behave and analyse causes.  This will be done through engaging science lessons, practical experiments, visits, talks, and links with our local community.
